A female student on Friday crushed to death by Metro bus after she fell off the bus when the driver rammed the vehicle into a roadside pole on the metro track at Rehmanabad. Police said that the deceased identified as Sumaira Ahmeda was a 3rd year medical student and a resident of Sir Syed Chowk. She embarked on metro bus number 61 from Liaquat Bagh station to go to her university.

Police and rescue officials said the bus rammed into a roadside pole as driver applied emergency brakes to control the fast-moving vehicle. Due to the collision, the vehicle's door opened and a girl fell on the road. She was run over by the metro bus, they said. Police registered a case against the driver of the bus on complaint of brother of the deceased girl. Rescue 1122 took the dead body to DHQ mortuary. However, some eyewitnesses and sources said that Sumaira was standing near the window of the bus due to non-availability of seat when the driver lost control over steering and the bus collided with a roadside poll on metro track. As a result deceased fell on the road by breaking the windowpane and bus rolled down her, killing her on the spot.

Soon after the incident, students staged protest demonstration in front of District Headquarters Hospital and later on Murree Road. The mess of students on Murree Road disturbed smooth flow of traffic. The occurrence of the incident also halted metro bus movement between twin cities. Later, the students marched on Murree Road and held a protest chanting slogans against the government.
